Problem definition:

On intensively used
outdoor areas such as
sports facilities,
golf courses or
outdoor swimming pools, but also at festivals or large industrial facilities, there are potentially life-threatening dangers for visitors and employees in the event of thunderstorms, storms or flooding. The operators are obliged to take suitable measures for the safety of all persons on the respective premises in the event of specific hazardous situations (personal protection). But when exactly – and how – should a warning be issued? By an employee on instinct? And what if the employee is on vacation? And afterwards, insurance companies, claimants, authorities or owners often demand proof of compliance with the regulations and reports on the process.

Solution approach:

A fully automatic warning system that reliably triggers warnings via various channels (SMS, e-mail, siren, light signals, voice announcements, switching outputs, …) according to objectively defined criteria and documents them seamlessly and legally.

The solution:

Based on the M2M Control Pro controller, COPTR has developed a system that can obtain hazard can obtainhazard information from a wide variety of sources, e.g:

  • Lightning information service Aldis/Blids
  • MoWaS the “Modular Warning System” of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance(floods/naturalhazards, extreme weather, fire…),
  • German Weather Service – DWD (extreme weather),
  • BOS-TETRA connection to public warning systems,
  • local hazard signals, such as hazardous substance detectors for chlorine or ammonia.

The system triggers hazard alarms via the desired channels and interfaces according to detailed defined criteria and ensures court-proof documentation.
Switching signals are also available, e.g. for switching off distributors to protect against overvoltage damage or for interrupting the refueling process at hydrogen filling stations.
To ensure that the warning system can be used in practice, special emphasis was placed on a number of requirements:

  • Easy adaptability to specific project requirements (e.g. alarm sources, criteria, reporting chains)
  • Complete remote monitoring to ensure maximum availability.
  • Active remote device management (rollout, updates) over the entire life cycle to ensure effective operation.

Result:

With this system, operators efficiently meet the legal requirements for hazard reporting (lightning, hazardous substances), minimize damage to persons and endangered infrastructures and protect themselves against possible claims for damages.
