The Wiegand to Modbus/RS-486 converter contains all functions for an access or door controller in one housing: Two independent Wiegand channels (e.g. a card reader can be operated for each side of the door), outputs for indicator LEDsof the card readers or other devices and a relay for operating e.g. a door opener. The connection to PLC or other control technology is made via an interference-resistant and easy to install RS-485 with the Modbus protocol.

Dual Wiegand ↔ Modbus/RS-485

The use of devices with Wiegand protocol (e.g. card readers) with industrial control technology such as PLC is difficult because this protocol does not fit into the usual async scheme and is therefore often not implemented. This converter maps Wiegand information – bidirectionally – to Modbus registers, making integration a snap. Since card readers etc. often come “in a twin pack” (one reader for each side of a door), our converter has two channels.

Door opener relay

The Wiegand controller has an integrated relay to control e.g. a door opener comfortably via Modbus. This saves additional cables from the controller or an additional device.

Outputs for user signalling

The Wiegand controller has outputs for LEDs or signaling devices for user signaling, e.g. in card readers, conveniently controlled via Modbus. This saves additional cables from the controller or an additional device.
